Like most American industrial cities, as environmental issues became a priority, major changes resulted in suburban growth and a decline in downtown activity. Through a unique collaboration between communities, neighborhoods, and both private and public investment, Chattanooga's downtown has risen to new heights. The city's riverfront entertainment district now boasts the Tennessee Aquarium, BellSouth Park, The Walnut Street Bridge, Ross's Landing, Coolidge Park, the Bluff View Arts District and the Tennessee Riverpark. Several more exciting riverfront venues are underway through the city's expansive Chattanooga Waterfront Project. In addition, dozens of quality restaurants, shops and entertainment venues have opened in the past several years.
